Privacy Policy
- Everything you log stays on your iPhone. Mahway has no account and no servers, so we never receive it.
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking, and no third-party code that collects data.
- When you scan a barcode, that barcode number is sent to two public food databases to look up the food.
- Apple Health data is read and written only with your permission, and never leaves your device through us.
What Mahway stores
Mahway keeps the following on your iPhone, in the app’s own storage: your food log, the foods and recipes you save, your targets and goal, body measurements (such as weight, waist and body fat), progress photos, and your settings.
None of this is sent to us. Mahway doesn’t have an account system or a server to send it to, and we can’t see, sell or share it.
Backups
Like other app data, your log is included in your iPhone’s own backups (iCloud Backup or a backup to your computer), if you have them turned on. Those backups are handled by Apple under your Apple Account settings.
Progress photos are left out of backups unless you choose to include them. Mahway asks the first time you add a photo, and you can change it later in the app.
What leaves your iPhone
Barcode lookups
When you scan a barcode, Mahway sends the barcode number to look up the food’s name and nutrition:
- USDA FoodData Central (api.nal.usda.gov), run by the U.S. Department of Agriculture
- Open Food Facts (openfoodfacts.org), an open, nonprofit food database
Only the barcode number is sent, with nothing that identifies you or your log. As with any request over the internet, these services can see your device’s IP address. Their own privacy policies apply. If you don’t scan barcodes, Mahway makes no network requests for your data.
Exports you make
When you export your data as CSV or JSON, the file goes where you choose to send it, such as Files, AirDrop or another app. Mahway doesn’t send it anywhere else.
Apple Health
With your permission, Mahway:
- reads your weight from Apple Health;
- reads food that other apps saved to Apple Health, when you choose to import it;
- saves the weight you log in Mahway to Apple Health.
Health data is used only to show and track your own progress in the app. It isn’t used for advertising or marketing, isn’t sold, and isn’t shared with anyone. You can change Mahway’s access at any time in the Health app or in iOS Settings.
Permissions
- Camera: to scan barcodes and take progress photos. Photos are kept inside Mahway and are not saved to your Photos library.
- Face ID: to unlock your progress photos. Face ID is handled by iOS. Mahway never receives your face data.
- Notifications: to tell you when your weekly report is ready. These are scheduled on your iPhone, not sent from a server.
Mahway reads your clipboard only when you tap Paste, for example to paste a nutrition label or a theme.
No tracking or ads
Mahway doesn’t show ads, doesn’t use analytics or advertising tools, and doesn’t track you across apps or websites. It contains no third-party code that collects data.
If you’ve chosen in iOS Settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may send us anonymous crash reports. These help us fix bugs and don’t include your log.
Your choices
- Export: Settings → Data → Export gives you all your data as CSV or a JSON backup.
- Delete: deleting Mahway from your iPhone removes everything it stored. Copies may remain in your device backups until those are replaced, and weights already saved to Apple Health stay there until you delete them in the Health app.
- Permissions: you can turn camera, Health and notification access on or off in iOS Settings.
Children
Mahway isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If how Mahway handles data changes, we’ll update this page and its effective date. Significant changes will also be noted in the app’s release notes.
